CardFrance…They won’t ease up, and neither will Albert. After collecting 5 RBI’s in last night’s ballgame which gives him a total of 2208 RBI’s for his career, Pujols is now only 6 RBI’s behind the Bambino for second place on the all-time RBI list. He has 10 more games to do it and I’m not quite dumb enough to count him out.
BikeMike…I’d say your conclusion is the crux of the bisquit, so to speak, as to the reason the Cardinals continue to be the premier team in the NL. Not too long ago, you could also make a case for the Dodgers being similarly proficient along those same lines.
For me, it all started with Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Billy Williams and Willie McCovey. Then, a little later on, some of the names were Schmidt, Garvey, Parker and Winfield, and most recently guys like Berkman, Helton, Beltran and Bagwell. I’m sure there were others, but all these names murdered Redbird pitching and gave me a sinking feeling in the gut along with the thought of, “why did it have to be this guy,” as they stepped into the box with a game on the line while opposing my favorite team. When Albert Pujols came along, I exacted a bit of revenge. Now, all the fans of the opposition would get a genuine double dosage of all the nightmares and misery I was subjected to all those years in the form of the greatest right-handed hitter I’ve ever witnessed.
I’d almost rather MIL sneak in than SD after Soto’s routine the other night. Before they were required to actually play some baseball games, all the professional experts had SD slated as a genuine nemesis to not only the Dodgers, but the rest of the NL. Sometimes these guys forget that the games are played to decide who’s the best.

I think this is pretty important. You could use the term acceptable collateral damage. Of the 700 HR’s Albert has ripped in his storied career, 29 Big League teams have been victimized by a total of 697 of them. The Cardinals were only victimized by the remaining 3…I’d have to say we were lucky to have had him on our side for all those years.
This is according to an article in today’s St. Louis, Post Dispatch…The baseball hit for Albert’s #699 HR was taken to MLB officials to be confirmed and authenticated by the fan who snagged it. He then returned it to the Cardinals to be given to Pujols. The baseball hit for HR #700 was also taken to MLB official representatives by the fan who snagged it. That baseball was also confirmed and authenticated. Then, according to those MLB officials, the fan who was lucky enough to possess the historic round piece of horsehide hit for #700, “walked.” What did Albert have to say about that? A direct quote from the great slugger…”Souvenirs are for fans.”
Well, let’s see…The Great Pujols uncoiled for HR #699 while facing a LHP, which was the 200th time he’s tatered-up vs. a lefty. During the following inning, while facing a RHP, the great slugger uncoiled for HR #700 which was his 500th HR vs. a righty. Nice round numbers. I also could not help but to notice that HR #700 not only tallied him RBI #5 for his historic night at the plate, but also afforded his Cardinal team a 5 run lead. Maybe it’s time for the Cardinal organization to plan on retiring the legendary #5 on the last homestand and last regular season game of his career which, coincidentally, happens to fall on the 5th day of next month.

You know, I mentioned Kenny Boyer only as a result of Nado surpassing Boyer’s Cardinal team record and it got me to thinking…If Santo’s a HOF’er, why not Boyer? If you ever get a chance, compare their careers side by side and see what you think.
Willie82…They probably don’t have any access to replays before the game’s over, so they’ll wait until then to announce it along with the replays. The streaming contract is a genuine fiasco.
Arenado has now passed Kenny Boyer for the Cardinal team record for 3B’men starting a GIDP. That team record had stood since 1958.
Albert has said he doesn’t care about any of these historic baseballs and I believe him. He told the fan in Pittsburg that caught the ball that he hit to pass Rodriguez the he has “plenty of baseballs.” Albert likes to lose them more than he likes to keep them. All 700 of them…
GameCard…Haha! Have you noticed how much Albert loves to shove little Eddie across HP? I hope he don’t hurt him! Eddie now with 92 runs scored this season. Got to push him across 8 more times.
If the Redbirds indeed win this game they’ll be 9-1 in the 10 games that Quint has started since being fitted for a Cardinal uniform. In my estimation, Quintana’s been lost in the mix a little bit. His ERA as a Cardinal is now a nice and skinny 2.21. Not too shabby.
