I thought the pitching was solid for a first game. I also really like Gorman, hes pretty impressive. Carlson swung real well in his plate appearance as well. its the first game so nothing you can really take out of it. but im glad we are off and rolling.

well I actually found out they changed my fox sports Midwest to fox sports Indiana on my cable. they do tend to carry the cardinal games. the pacers and some other Indiana stuff will usually replace them but then the cardinals usually get put on the non hd channel. checked them all but in the end I think youtube probably gives the most channels. but the bummer is we have a full house with 6 tvs and all of the choices have a limited number of streams usually 3, I think one might have went to 4. I guess im gonna have to wait til a few more leave the nest. also I have wow internet service which the router is built into like a all in one box and the speeds really jump around, or I lose internet entirely like I did watching Netflix the other night so I would probably have to go to a even higher package far as internet goes. 100 mps should be enough but not if it jumps around.

I checked out youtube channel list for my area. it doesn’t give fox sports Midwest. which is a bummer. it gives 2 channels each for fox sports Indiana and ohio but not the Midwest. that really sucks. fox sports Indiana does have their games sometimes but not all the time.

I don’t blame the guy for not doing it while he was on the team. There is a big difference in snitching on your teammates, than snitching on ex teammates. He would have had to try to basically live with those teammates until he got traded or the season ended. Easy to say from afar what the guy should have done. Most people in regular jobs wont speak up about things cause they know that is their source of income and are fearful of reprisals.

well I don’t believe rest is a treatment approach. for a short time sure. but in my eyes three months isn’t really a short time. one month is closer to it. But I know how medical stuff goes. I went to the doctor for a pain running through my arm and shoulder. while he wasnt totally on board with it, basically he legally had to send me to rehab which was a joke cause I work at a job where I use my arms and shoulders everyday. Since rehab costs me a lot of out of pocket money, I just canceled that and just dealt with it on my own.

Oneil can fly, he is super fast. probably on par with bader, maybe faster. great with baserunning. problem is defensively though it doesn’t help him much. he takes bad lines and he tends to drop the ball, maybe because of the speed, I don’t know. I have actually seen bader drop the ball a couple of times but for the most part he catches them.

if it was soreness in his arm, I wouldn’t worry at all, that is common. soreness in an elbow or a shoulder is a different thing entirely. also the notion that a first baseman doesn’t need a strong arm is ridiculous. sometimes they need to have the ability to throw to third with a strong throw as well as to second on double plays where they aren’t close enough to step on first before throwing.

That is probably a good call brian. Maybe you could make a thread about analytics and sabermetrics so everyone could post all their fancy stats there.

I don’t really think its a question of what to do now. the question was why they sat on this at the end of the season. Maybe it wouldn’t have mattered in the long run but we will never know.

I wish the cardinals were paying more to players not to play for them in some cases.

while I agree that some stars might excel the same, im not sure about all. I think in different eras, you have to have different mindsets. A lot of players today don’t have the mindset to play the game the way it was played early on in the twentieth century. sure the physical skills would be fine, the mental is the difference. Being able to stay in the box and accept that a pitch may get intentionally thrown at your head and no whining about it after the fact is gonna get you any sympathy. I look at it the same way with other sports like nascar and football. In todays sports, its all about skill set, things are mostly safe and easy. Back in the day, just having the skill to hit or field wasn’t enough. you had to have the mindset and grit to deal with things hardly seen in todays sports. I see how baseball players react when a ball comes a little too close or actually hits them or how quarterbacks whine if somebody just breaths on them in the slightest, I think a lot of those players wouldn’t have what it takes if the games just changed back to the way it was overnight. Its also one of the reasons you see players playing well farther up into age, at least one of the reasons.

Yea I would gladly get mlb.tv if they didn’t blackout the cardinal home games. You would think with streaming going the way it is, that they would be trying to jump on the band wagon. if I could stream all the cardinal live games, I would probably ditch cable. baseball is really the main thing I keep it for.

Well apparently cardsfaninchitown my device doesn’t do that. also there is no way im capitalizing the start of every sentence. ive never understood how people have problems with reading something just because one word isn’t capitalized or that there aren’t paragraphs. now if I put all the words together without spaces, I might could see a problem. doing stuff like this is fun time for me and im not going to make it seem like work just to satisfy some.

where are the elite hitters that are playing now. I really haven’t seen any for a while. trout has impressive war stats for those that are impressed by that but elite in being a pure hitter, no.

Well apparently Mo is thinking to give oneil and Thomas the shot at left field. makes sense we will see. this is probably oneils chance to win it or be ready to move on.

batting average can be used just as effectively as war when it comes to baseball conversations. an average will give you a good idea about how often you can expect a hit from a player. sure some players struggle at situational hitting and there are other factors but its a viable gauge. sure war has its uses and a lot of people love it but I don’t feel its needed for me to evaluate cardinal players cause I know enough about baseball to evaluate what I see and I mainly watch cardinal games. it might help for players on other teams but im not interested in those players much outside of a few. also since I know that a lot of these new stats don’t devalue some things as much as they should, I don’t trust them at all.

I didn’t really have a problem with a contract extension for mikolas I just wasn’t sure it needed done when it did like the goldy contract. yea you take a chance someone says im doing pretty good, ill wait and see other offers if you wait but its better than rushing a deal. hopefully its not a long term problem.

I don’t really understand why our farm system seems to be weak right now. up until last year, we weren’t in the playoffs and we haven’t really spent any huge amount of money on free agents though I know carpenter ate us up a bit. seems like it should be better to me.

well if bader had hit the 267 that munoz hit last year, nobody would even be thinking he shouldn’t be in centerfield. bader by the way hit 205. im a big bader fan by the way, and not really a munoz fan but when you come on a baseball discussion site, you better have the facts straight. miller hit 260 by the way. did hit more homeruns so if that’s your thing, good for ya. also millers career batting average, 241, munoz 273. so like I said, basically a wash at best. why have two of the same when one is more than enough.
