I too think he has earned it. wacha had his chance. I think it does mean its possible wacha will not be with the team next year or could even be traded this year if someone thinks they could get some magic from him. I like ponce though im not sure hes ever really gonna be much more than a five hundred pitcher longterm but you never know.

well lets finish the year and see. if he finishes strong, I have problem with a one year deal. personally id rather he finish strong and call it a career as opposed to him being signed one more year and he does poorly and maybe gets cut during the year. also don’t want to see him go to another team to try but I understand his want to keep trying.

well the cardinals have definitely come alive here. gonna have to wait and see how we do against decent competition. but we are winning games. lets win out all the way to the break.

the problem I see with wacha is this. he has good stuff but he doesn’t have the kind of stuff to get away with missing his spots. not anymore. once upon the time he did but not now. to me he is still a decent pitcher but hes not a one or a two. hes closer to a 4 or a 5 and you are gonna have a lot of bad games with those guys.

this is a case where an umpire should be kicked out of a game. the game isn’t about him. I don’t blame shildt for getting heated. no reason for all that yelling from the umpire.

this will be a good win. offense still struggled til the ninth so we got a ways to go but it still feels good to score some runs.

I think we may be going too long with waino here. kind of like last night when Flaherty gave up that two run homer. waino only gives up a hit here but I still think he shouldn’t have started the inning.

well that play by bader is why I like him so much. yea sometimes he does it at the wrong time but experience will help stop that. it didn’t work out this time far as him scoring but it gave us an opportunity. most players don’t even think of trying to go to second there.

well goldy being signed to a five year deal is really looking bad right now. if this is what he is gonna be, its worse than fowlers signing. but you cant eat that much money. it also hurts us the most cause he was supposed to be the changing piece. its the problem with how the cardinals do things. they make a deal but they don’t follow up with another deal just in case the first one doesn’t go as planned. if carpenter doesn’t get back to form, we have to move on, same with fowler though he has been ok this year. I stay with Molina cause defensively hes still solid and better than what we have on the farm. plus I believe in loyalty to the guys that have been the face of your team to a certain point obviously. there are more important things than wins and losses to us lifelong fans anyways. I still believe in bader. while he has been bad, his fall isn’t as far as the others. the others were supposed to carry the load, bader was never meant to do anything near that and hes still solid defensively. doesn’t mean he has to start all the time or that he has unlimkited rope but he just needs to improve a little to get back to his projections, these other guys need to do a lot.

well waino is pitching well though his pitch count is high. with the division the way it is, its hard to make sense of anything. its right there for the taking but we are closer to last place than we are first. I thought we could have an entertaining division but I was thinking because of how good all the teams could be. its still entertaining in a way but its more because of how bad all the teams are. maybe we should just combine the teams to create 2 or 3 good ones.

well Flaherty is right at 100 pitches so you could see that homerun coming. he still has good stuff, just gets into ruts too often. now they are taking him out. doesn’t make a lot of sense. would have been better to start the inning with a fresh pitcher, maybe that homerun doesn’t happen.

yea, Flaherty just is an enigma. 70 pitches and he isn’t through 3 innings.

well apparently this mariners pitching staff is the third worst in history coming into the all star break. when you combine that and the fact there seems to be more cardinal fans than mariner fans in the stands, if we don’t hit the cover off the ball tonight, we just might have to call it a day.

nice post, brian. it is interesting and perplexing at the same time. the thing is even ozuna and dejong have had lengthy periods this year where they have struggled hence I guess they have only been average to slightly above average. I do agree with the article that guys like bader, fowler, and wong should never had been counted upon being any kind of consistent offensive threats. fowler has been better than last year, wong has had good momemts, and though I wish bader had worked on pitch recognition more and cut down on strikeouts, defensively he has still been great. considering we have a solid pitching staff, we cant give up on defense especially when the offense of other players hasn’t blown off any doors. it really comes down to carpenter and goldshmidt. if they don’t improve, I don’t see how we can compete. maybe even add yadi to that mix. those guys are really the key. you have to start wondering about the hitting coaches at this point and maybe shildt himself. it was a rushed hire for him just like it was a rushed new contract for goldy. maybe the guys will com eout of it but it isn’t a given.

I haven’t been able to watch many games of late but I have kept tabs on scores and such. the problem I see with the front office and manager is the same problem in ways I see with a lot of fans on this board. fans keep wanting them to put this guy in and that guy in. I don’t like that approach. but schildt has apparently started listening to fans cause that is what he seems to be doing. to me you stick with your lineup, giving guys a day off here and there. if a bench guy comes in and just lights it up, the you find a place for him til he proves hes really better as a bench guy which is what mostly happens or he proves he should be in there every day. so far nobody I have seen coming off the bench has showed me they deserve to take a spot over the regular starters. edman has been solid but not enough sample size to say he should be an every day player. munoz and Martinez can hit but both are horrible in the field. munoz looks better in the field of the two but he still makes a lot of goofs. this team as a whole has underperformed offensively but its pretty much the whole team. when carp isn’t hitting, we don’t have any kind of a leadoff hitter. goldshmidt has been a bust so far. you would think the cardinals would quit throwing out this money to players before they prove they are worthy. they could have waited with him. what he did in Arizona was the past, he hadn’t done anything for the cards at that time other than to generate some buzz. funny thing is that as bad as the cards have been, they are still in it. all the central teams have been a disappointment outside of maybe the pirates. they are better than I thought they would be but only slightly.

yea hopefully we can get back on track after a pretty dismal showing. you have to credit the other guy sometimes though. I also like the lineup change, might light a fire under someone. we definitely need goldy to start lighting it up a bit. right now hes on track for just sixty rbis. we are right in the division race though believe it or not. but the other teams can say the same thing.

oh its gonna happen. though it isn’t the red sox. its still kind of payback against boston for 2004. I know we lost to them in 2013 but they were better than us. that 2004 cards team is on of the top team cards teams of all time in my opinion. but just failed in the world series, of course red sox were on an incredible high but still shouldn’t have effected us.
