With the start of the season keeping me busy, I did not immediately report on the April report from oddsmaker bovada.lv. I wish I had as there is some noteworthy change in the National League Central Division outlook, reflecting bettors’ actions heading out of the spring training and into the regular season.
In the NL Central, the big news is that a little more of the bloom is off the rose of the Chicago Cubs, who were the division favorite back in December. Chicago is now 3/1 to win the division, only third-best.
The St. Louis Cardinals improved their odds to take the division’s top spot to 13/10 while the Pittsburgh Pirates jumped over the Cubs, now at 12/5 to take the NLC.
Interestingly, the World Series money is still more on the Cubs at 16/1, compared to the Bucs at 25/1. The Cardinals remain at the same 12/1 as they were last month.
St. Louis’ odds of winning the NL pennant are also flat at 6/1, with the Cubs next at 7/1 and Pirates at 14/1.
The Washington Nationals remain at the top of MLB with the Nats having shortened their odds of winning it all to 6/1. The Boston Red Sox remain at the top of the AL, but third overall (after the Nats and Dodgers) at 10/1 to win the World Series, yet the Mariners now show the same 11/2 odds of winning the AL pennant.
