St. Louis’ minors went 2-2 on Tuesday behind two offensive outbursts and two walk-off defeats. Behind Peoria’s Delvin Perez’ 4-for-4 leading a 15-hit attack, Player of the Day Tommy Parsons spun eight shutout innings.

Results from games played Tuesday, April 9th.

Memphis 5 at San Antonio 6

Yairo Munoz (Steve Mitchell/Imagn)

Memphis (2-4) began a seven-game road trip by absorbing a 6-5 walk-off loss at San Antonio.

Up 5-4 with three outs to go, Hunter Cervenka (L, 0-1) (BS, 1) blew the save on a base-on-balls plus two singles sandwiched around a wild pitch.  Austin Gomber was solid through six, permitting three hits and three free passes. One hit was a two-run bomb, accounting for two of the three runs the southpaw allowed.  Gomber fanned six.  Ryan Meisinger surrendered a solo long ball during his two innings on the bump.

The Redbirds’ 12-hit attack was spearheaded by Yairo Muñoz, who went 3-for-5 with a solo shot that was one of his two RBI.  Four Memphis players had two hits each: Tommy Edman, Drew Robinson, Max Schrock and Andrew Knizner.

Wednesday’s game:  at San Antonio (4-2) (MIL), 7:05 pm CT, Jake Woodford (0-0, 0.00)

Springfield 2 at Tulsa 3

Anthony Shew (Andrew Miller/Palm Beach Cardinals)

Another blown save left the S-Cards swallowing another walk-off loss, this time 3-2 to the Drillers.  Springfield (0-6) has yet to find the win column this season.

Through six, the visitors held a 2-1 advantage, a lead made more impressive considering the Drillers’ starter was rehabbing Clayton Kershaw.  The perennial Cy Young Award candidate shut down Springfield on two hits over five but surrendered solo bombs to Kramer Robertson and Dylan Carlson the next inning.

S-Cards’ starter Anthony Shew was impressive during his six-inning stint, matching Kershaw’s six strikeouts while limiting Tulsa to a run on five hits and two free passes.  Jesus Cruz battled control issues, with his four walks matching his four strikeouts.

In his Springfield debut, Merandy Gonzalez recorded the eighth’s final out after Cruz walked the bases full but could not escape his own jam the next frame.  Gonzalez (L, 0-1) (BS, 1) yielded three straight singles to begin the ninth, the final hit knotting the game at two all.  After an intentional free pass, Seth Elledge took the mound and served up an RBI single to his first batter, and that was the game.

Six Springfield players each had one of their squad’s six hits.

Wednesday’s game:  at Tulsa (3-3) (LAD), 12:05 pm CT, Williams Perez (0-0, 9.64)

Palm Beach 10 vs. Daytona 5

Bryce Denton (Peoria Chiefs)

A balanced offense delivered a 10-5 victory for the Beach Birds’ 10-5 over the visiting Tortugas.  Palm Beach (5-1) has won each of the first two of four scheduled contests between the two clubs.

All nine starters had at least one of the team’s 12 total hits with Luken Baker, Zach Kirtley and Bryce Denton obtaining two hits each.  Baker and Kirtley both went 2-for-3 with two walks while Baker and Denton both doubled for the first time this season.  Denton added his first 2019 home run, a solo shot, to his 2-for-4 effort. The outfielder did the most damage with two runs scored and three driven in.

Luke Gregerson’s rehab continued with his first ‘start’ in which the veteran worked around shortstop Jose Martinez’ fielding error at the game’s onset on the way to a scoreless inning.  Martinez had three miscues on the evening, two fielding and one throwing.

Regular rotation starter Johan Oviedo took over the next frame and went the next 5 2/3.  Oviedo allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits and three bases-on-balls but came away with his first win after the PB-Cards exploded for a six-run sixth.  The righty struck out five.

Ben Yokley retired four batters, giving up two hits and a walk with an unearned tally.  Bryan Dobzanski was tagged for a run on two hits in the ninth.

Wednesday’s game:  vs. Daytona (2-4) (CIN), 6:30 pm ET, Edgar Gonzalez (1-0, 0.00)

Peoria 9 vs. Wisconsin 0

Player of the Day Tommy Parsons retired his first 16 batters as the Chiefs (2-4) shellacked the Timber Rattlers, 9-0, evening the home series at one game apiece with two on tap.

Parsons (W, 2-0) tossed eight outstanding frames, yielding just four hits against no walks with four strikeouts.  Edgar Escobar faced the minimum in the ninth.

Peoria’s offense banged out 15 hits, led by Delvin Perez, who was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.  The shortstop was unsuccessful in his only stolen base attempt.

Three other Chiefs also garnered multi-hit performances:  center fielder Brandon Riley, first baseman Brady Whalen and designated hitter Leandro Cedeño.  Riley and Whalen both had three hits in five at bats with two doubles, Riley touching home twice and knocking in four while Whalen drove in one.  Cedeño went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.

Wednesday’s game: vs. Wisconsin (4-2) (MIL), Alvaro Seijas (0-1, 11.57)
