Cardinals Minor League Notebook – June 19, 2021

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-1 on Friday. Our Players of the Day are Memphis 2B Kramer Robertson, and RF Lars Nootbaar, who combined for six hits and six RBI in the Redbirds’ stomping of Indianapolis.

Memphis 10 at Indianapolis 1

The Redbirds (16-24) clobbered the Indians 10-1 at Victory Field on Friday night. Memphis bats were active, with Kramer Robertson and Lars Nootbaar combining for six hits and six RBI.

The scoring started in the first inning on a two-run home run by Nootbaar.  Robertson pounded a three-run double in the second inning and the Redbirds had a 5-0 lead.

Redbirds starter Matthew Liberatore cruised through four innings before yielding the lone Indian run in the fifth on a solo blast.  The left hander allowed four hits, fanned three and walked one to earn his second win of the season.

Memphis added on in the sixth via an RBI triple by Robertson.  In the seventh, Ali Sanchez and Juan Yepez each blasted two-run home runs to bring the score to 10-1.

Robertson went 3-for-5 with four RBI.  Nootbaar was also 3-for-5 with two driven in and two runs scored.  Sanchez and Yepez were both 2-for-5 with two RBI.

Following Liberatore on the mound to pitch four scoreless innings were Tyler Webb, new returnee Brandon Dickson, and Evan Kruczynski.

Scott Hurst stole his third base of the season.

Saturday’s game:  at Indianapolis, Bernardo Flores Jr. LHP (2-2, 5.81) vs. James Marvel RHP (2-1, 3.86) 6:05 CT.

Springfield 3 at Wichita 1

The Cardinals (14-25) were victorious over the Wind Surge at Riverfront Stadium on Friday night behind a quality start from Andre Pallante. The right-hander pitched six innings and surrendered only one run on five hits while punching out seven and walking one.  Reliever Evan Sisk tossed the final three scoreless innings and earned the win, his first.

Wichita got on the board first in the first inning with one run.  Springfield tied the score in the fifth inning when Delvin Perez singled, Nolan Gorman singled, then the duo successfully completed a double steal of second and third before Perez stole home.

The game remained tied 1-1 until the ninth inning.  Nick Raposo led off with a single.  Perez doubled.  Raposo scored on an Ivan Herrera fielder’s choice and a missed catch error.  Alec Burleson singled to plate Perez.

Perez was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.  Gorman was 2-for-5 and Nick Plummer went 4-for-4. Perez snatched his ninth base of the season and Gorman stole his fourth.  Plummer made a fielding error.

Saturday’s game:  at Wichita, Dalton Roach RHP (2-3, 5.51) vs. Cole Sands RHP (0-0, 2.84) 6:05 CT.

Peoria 0, Beloit 5

The Chiefs (16-24) were blanked by the Snappers in a Friday night contest at Dozer Park.  The pitching of Beloit’s Bryan Hoeing and Jake Walters stymied the Peoria offense.

The Chiefs produced only four hits, all singles against Hoeing. Imeldo Diaz had two of those hits.  Tyler Reichenborn and Pedro Pages contributed singles as well.  The best scoring opportunity came in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and one out, but Pages ground into a double play.

Michael YaSenka got the start for the Chiefs. He tossed six innings and yielded three runs, two earned, on five hits.  YaSenka struck out four and walked one to take the loss, his fourth.

Leonardo Taveras surrendered two runs in the seventh inning.  Cole Aker pitched two scoreless frames.

Francisco Hernandez made a throwing error and Moises Castillo a fielding error.

Saturday’s game: vs. Beloit, Logan Gragg RHP (0-2, 3.80) vs. TBD 6:35 CT.

Palm Beach 4 at Daytona 2

The Cardinals (13-27) defeated the Tortugas on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark by the score of 4-2.  A combined six innings of scoreless pitching from Jose Moreno and Dionys Rodriguez kept the Daytona offense at bay, while the Beach Birds sent four runs home in the first and third innings.

Masyn Winn led off the first inning with a double, the first of two for the young shortstop on the night.  Winn advanced to third on a wild pitch and the next batter up, Tommy Jew, drew a walk.  Jordan Walker’s sac fly to right field plated Winn.  Jacob Buchberger walked, and Jew stole third base.  Todd Lott drove Jew home on a sac fly.

The Cardinals added two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.  Walker singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Buchberger’s single.  Buchberger later crossed home on a sacrifice double play by Franklin Soto.

The Tortugas finally put two runs on the board in the eighth against relievers Hector Soto and Sean Kealy.  Kevin Marnon tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his second save.  Rodriguez was awarded the win.

Winn was 3-for-5 with two doubles.

Jew stole his fourth base of the season.  Soto and Lott each made errors, fielding and throwing respectively.

Saturday’s game:  at Daytona, TBD (PB) vs. Jason Parker RHP (1-0, 4.28) 6:05 CT.
