Even though the St. Louis Cardinals have no game scheduled on Thursday, June 10, the club is preparing for the Friday afternoon weekend series opener at division rival Chicago.

Returning from a rib injury suffered on May 13, shortstop Paul DeJong is being brought off the 10-day injured list. In the corresponding transaction, first baseman John Nogowski has been optioned to Memphis.

In 10 at-bats over four rehab games with the Triple-A Redbirds, DeJong doubled and struck out twice. Prior to his IL stint, the 27-year-old slashed .177/.277/.371/.648 in 35 games with St. Louis.

In 20 plate appearances over 19 games with St. Louis this season, Nogowski has a single and a walk to go with two strikeouts. The slash line for the 28-year-old is .056/.150/.056/.206/
