The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-7 on Saturday. Our Player of the Day is Memphis record-tying left-hander pitcher Genesis Cabrera, with seven scoreless, one hit innings while striking out 12. Enmanuel Solano spun eight scoreless frames for playoff-hopeful State College.

The Redbirds blanked the Omaha Storm Chasers 4-0 on Saturday behind a pitching gem from lefty starter Genesis Cabrera. Cabrera pitched seven scoreless innings, allowed one hit, fanned 12 and walked two to earn his fifth win. Cabrera tied the Pacific Coast League record with nine consecutive strikeouts from the third inning into the sixth inning, tying Alex Reyes’ league high set in 2018. Cabrera ended his historic night by retiring the last 15 Storm Chasers he faced.
In a non-save situation, Kodi Whitley closed the win with two scoreless innings of relief.
Edmundo Sosa led off the first inning with a two-run home run. Ramon Urias added to the edge in the third with a sac fly. A solo home run off the bat of Justin Williams in the fifth increased the lead to the final 4-0. Sosa was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Williams was 2-for-4, and Urias was 2-for-3.
On the base paths, Sosa was picked off first base. In the field, Cabrera picked a runner off second base.
The late-streaking Redbirds (64-67) have won five straight games and 13 of their last 15. They are in second place in the PCL North, six games back of the Iowa Cubs with an elimination number of four.
Sunday’s game: vs. Omaha, Daniel Ponce de Leon (7-4, 2.84) 2:05 CT.
The Cardinals were overmatched by the Midland RockHounds on Saturday. Springfield scored in the first inning on Rayder Ascanio’s RBI double but was shut down the remainder of the game. Ascanio had the only extra base hit of six total hits, and no Cardinal had multiples.
Starter Alex FaGalde pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up six runs on nine hits. The right hander struck out two and walked four. Jacob Patterson followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Mitchell Osnowitz tossed a scoreless eighth. FaGalde took the loss.
Kramer Robertson was picked off first base. Conner Capel made a fielding error, and Zach Kirtley had a missed catch error. Capel had an outfield assist at third.
The Cardinals are 28-33 in the second half, 58-73 overall, and are in third place in the Texas League North. Their elimination number is also four.
Sunday’s game: at Midland, Tommy Parsons (4-4, 5.00) 2:00 CT.
The Cardinals were defeated by the Fort Myers Miracle by the score of 4-1 on Saturday. The lone Palm Beach run came home in the fourth inning when Nolan Gorman led off with a single and later scored on a force out by Michael Perri. The Cardinals managed four hits in total, with the only extra base hit a double by Nick Dunn, who was 2-for-4.
Starter Diego Cordero pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on eight hits. The left hander struck out five and walked two to take the loss, his sixth of the season. Cole Aker surrendered two runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Edgar Escobar tossed a scoreless ninth.
Dunn and Luken Baker both made fielding errors. Cordero and catcher Ivan Herrera each picked a runner off first base.
The Cardinals are 21-41 in the second half, 56-70 overall, and are in last place in the FSL South. Palm Beach has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Sunday’s game: vs. Fort Myers, Edgar Gonzalez (6-14, 4.94) 12:00 pm CT.
The Chiefs were edged by the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Saturday. Peoria was held scoreless until the eighth inning when two runs scored on a wild pitch and a single by Josh Shaw enabled them to take a 2-1 lead. It was short-lived, as the Kernels came back in the ninth to walk it off 3-2. The Chiefs had nine hits in total, but none went for extra bases. Jonatan Machado went 2-for-5, as did Imeldo Diaz. Brandon Riley was 2-for-4.
Starter Dalton Roach pitched seven innings and gave up one run on three hits. The right hander fanned five. Freddy Pacheco pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and surrendered the two runs in the ninth that handed Cedar Rapids the walk off win. Pacheco was charged with the loss and the blown save.
Delvin Perez stole his 20th base of the season. Shaw was picked off first base. In the field, Pacheco made a fielding error. Riley had an outfield assist at home plate.
The Chiefs are 19-42 in the second half, 49-81 overall, and are in last place in the Midwest League West. Peoria has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Sunday’s game: at Cedar Rapids, Colin Schmid (6-6, 4.42) 2:05 CT.
State College blanked the Batavia Muckdogs in a low scoring contest on Saturday. Neither team scored until the seventh inning when State College broke the stalemate with an RBI double by Stanley Espinal. The Spikes had three total hits and the double by Espinal was the only extra base hit. Terry Fuller and David Vinsky both singled.
Starter Enmanuel Solano pitched eight scoreless innings, allowed four hits, struck out five and walked two to earn the win. Eric Lex tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save.
On the base paths, Andrew Warner was picked off caught stealing for the second time. Donovan Williams was picked off first base. In the field, Brylie Ware made a throwing error.
The Spikes are 34-33 on the season and are in third place in the New York/Penn League Pinckney Division. State College is three games back with an elimination number of seven.
Sunday’s game: vs. West Virginia, Scott Politz (3-3, 4.82) 5:05 CT.
The Cardinals were edged by the Bristol Pirates 5-4 on Saturday. Johnson City scored four runs late but fell just short. Singles by Victor Garcia and Mateo Gil plated a run each in the seventh inning. Chandler Redmond blasted a two-run home run in the eighth. The offense put together seven hits, but no Cardinal had multiple hits.
Starter Jake Sommers pitched four innings and gave up one run on six hits. The right hander struck out five and walked two. Blake Drake pitched a scoreless fifth. Dylan Pearce surrendered three runs, one earned, in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Walker Robbins allowed one unearned run in 1 2/3 innings pitched. Pearce was the losing pitcher.
On the base paths, Malcom Nunez was caught stealing for the second time. In the field, Carlos Soler made a fielding error.
Johnson City is 33-31 on the season and is in first place in the Appalachian League West by just ½ of a game.
Sunday’s game: vs. Bristol, TBA 4:00 CT.
The Cardinals fell to the Mets in Jupiter on Saturday. The Cardinal offense had nine hits and scored all five runs in the seventh inning. Doubles by Joyser Garcia and Franklin Soto plated one and two runs respectively. Tyler Reichenborn and Ramon Mendoza added RBI singles. Reichenborn was 2-for-5. Mendoza and Soto were both 2-for-4.
Starter Anthony Green pitched five innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. The right hander struck out three and walked one. Thomas Hart surrendered four runs in two innings of relief. Roy Garcia tossed the final two scoreless innings. Green took the loss.
On the base paths, Reichenborn was caught stealing for the fifth time.
The Cardinals are 20-31 on the season, are in last place in the GCL East, and have been eliminated from playoff contention. Five games remain in the 2019 season.

DSL Cardinals Red 1 at DSL Brewers 8
The Cardinals Red were overwhelmed by the Brewers in an 8-1 let down on Saturday. The only Red score came on a second inning solo home run by Fernando Brazoban. Leadoff hitter Sander Mora went 2-for-4 with a double and was the only Cardinal with multiple hits.
Starter Hancel Rincon pitched four innings and gave up two runs on four hits. The right hander struck out three and walked two. Luis Garcia surrendered three runs in 2/3 innings. Brayan Ramirez tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Hemerson Cordero allowed one run in the seventh. Ramon Fernandez relinquished two runs in the eighth.
On the base paths, Diego Velasquez and Bryan Matute each stole a base. Velasquez was also caught stealing, as was Erick Thomas. In the field, Brazoban made a fielding error. Miguel Marcos had an outfield assist at second base. Cordero picked a runner off first base.
The Cardinals Red finished 32-39 on the season, in sixth place in the San Pedro Division.
DSL Cardinals Blue 1, DSL Orioles2 3
The Cardinals Blue fell to the Orioles2 by the score of 3-1 on Saturday. The Blue offense had just four hits, with the lone run in the third inning on a sac fly by Carlos Arcia. Jesus Orrechia and Elvin De Jesus had the only extra base hits, a double and a triple, respectively.
Starter Juan Peralta pitched four innings and gave up one unearned run on three hits. The right hander struck out one. Ronald Suarez surrendered one run in two innings of relief and took the loss. Americo Lugo also allowed one run in two innings of relief.
On the base paths, Gustavo A. Rodriguez was caught stealing for the first time. Leudy Pena committed a fielding error and Lugo made an error on a pickoff attempt.
The Cardinals Blue conclude the season at 41-23, in second place in the South Division.
