The Scottsdale Scorpions fell to Salt River at home in Thursday night AFL action. Three Cardinals hitters and two pitchers appeared in the loss. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DH Jimmy Crooks, singled and doubled.

Results from the Arizona Fall League game played on Thursday, November 2nd.

Scottsdale 3, Salt River 5

The Scottsdale Scorpions (13-13) were topped by the Salt River Rafters (14-13) on Thursday night at Scottsdale Stadium. Five St. Louis Cardinals appeared in the contest.

Victor Scott led off for Scottsdale and singled in the eighth inning. TCN’s no. 11 prospect stole second base to bring his total to 15, the most in the AFL. He was 1-for-5 with a strikeout.

In the DH spot, Jimmy Crooks hit sixth. He was 2-for-4 with a double in the fourth inning and a single in the seventh.

Jeremy Rivas had a rough Thursday evening for Scottsdale. At the plate, Rivas went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. In the field, he committed three errors at shortstop, two fielding and one throwing. They led to four unearned runs.

Out of the bullpen, Inohan Paniagua took his second loss of the AFL season. TCN’s no. 27 prospect tossed 2 2/3 innings and gave up a run on three hits, three walks and three punchouts.

Paniagua has surrendered six home runs this season, the most in the AFL. However, his long ball Thursday evening did not leave the park. In the eighth, a line drive to center handcuffed Scott. He dived for the ball, which was tailing away, but he didn’t touch it as it rolled to the wall, 430 feet away from the plate. By the time Scott could get to his feet, the Rafters hitter circled the bases. It was scored an inside the park home run and represented Salt River’s fourth and eventual winning score.

Edwin Nunez entered in relief with two outs in the ninth inning and struck out his only batter faced.

The Scottsdale lineup went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base. Scorpions pitching allowed five runs but only one was earned. Every player in the lineup was on base at least once.

Friday’s game: at Glendale, RHP Davis Daniel (1-0, 1.89 LAA) vs. RHP Jordan Geber (1-1, 5.40 NYM) 8:30 CT
