The 30-year-old first baseman and outfielder would get $100,000 each in 2020 for 250, 300, 350 and 400 plate appearances, and $200,000 apiece for 450, 500 and 550.
Essentially, if you put his ‘true’ 2019 salary at $575k, he can max out 2020 at $3,675,000 at 550 PA. Seems pretty fair.
Not a back breaker salary wise to the team but even if Martinez put up a 5 WAR season I doubt he would get $3.6 million in arbitration. This was a very generous deal.
