Michael Wacha (9-5, 3.85) vs. RHP Chad Kuhl (5-8, 4.64) 3:05 p.m. FOX Sports Midwest
August 19, 2017 at 11:43 am #31075wagee12ParticipantMan, I hope Wacha is on today. We need him to be a horse for the next few weeks. That Meyers guy has worn out his welcome in St. Louis, time to move him on like several others have been dispatched over the past few years.

Wacha PAugust 19, 2017 at 12:50 pm #31082PadsFSParticipantDeJong it tied for the second best WAR out of players from the 2015 draft class behind Alex Bregman and tied with Andrew Benintendi at 2.1. Benintendi is hitting .278 with 17 HRs for Boston while Bregman is hitting .272 with 14 HRs for Houston.
Both of them have below average defense (Benintendi in LF and Bregman at 3B) relative to their positions while DeJong is above-average and then gains the positional adjustment bonus for a SS.
Really, the only thing they are beating him on is that the other two have 450+ PAs to DeJong’s 270.
August 19, 2017 at 12:56 pm #31083PadsFSParticipantI’m not a fan of Fowler sitting out. He’s been on fire lately. A batting line of .441/.587/.824/1.411 in his last 10 games.
August 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm #31086Some rumblings that Fowler may be banged up again.
August 19, 2017 at 1:30 pm #31090I read elsewhere that Sierra might be on the way to Pittsburgh.
August 19, 2017 at 1:40 pm #31091bccranParticipantGrichuk has a gun for an arm and was a gold glove right fielder in the minors. Why play him in left and Martinez in right?
August 19, 2017 at 3:40 pm #31094Ask Matheny. His defensive lineups don’t make sense to me.
August 19, 2017 at 3:46 pm #31095I’m a little behind is the game delayed by weather…
August 19, 2017 at 3:52 pm #31096According to Gameday, currently in rain delay.
August 19, 2017 at 3:55 pm #31097Okay then, thanks, I was checking in on msn’s thing and it just said that it was delayed after start…
August 19, 2017 at 5:52 pm #31098It seemed like Wacha was asking the Pirate batters what pitch location they preferred before each pitch in the 2nd. They clobbered him. Score is 5-1. Looks like we’ll need to score in double figures again to have a decent shot in this game.
August 19, 2017 at 5:56 pm #31099bccranParticipantWe’re stumbling along with 2 effective starters right now. Gotta hope that Weaver gives us 3.
August 19, 2017 at 6:56 pm #31101Lucas was hit hard in his MLB debut.
Do we have any – ANY – relievers that are even remotely reliable???

August 19, 2017 at 7:43 pm #31104Bottom of the 8th after a HR by DeJong and score is now 6-3 Pirates…
August 19, 2017 at 7:51 pm #31106Top of the 9th, 6-4 Pirates, one out after Martinez hits a solo HR…
August 19, 2017 at 7:58 pm #31107And that’s a wrap we lose 6 to 4…
August 19, 2017 at 8:13 pm #31109Wacha has given up 12 runs over his last three starts.
Bad trend. 6-5-4 innings. Runs allowed 3-4-5.
(Though in fairness to him, the decision to send him back out after the two-hour rain delay can be questioned.)
August 19, 2017 at 9:33 pm #31110Yeah thought it wasbad idea to send him back out there after the long long delay
August 20, 2017 at 12:05 am #31114Didn’t seem to bother Kuhl
August 20, 2017 at 7:53 am #31122bccranParticipantThey should look at Wacha for the back end of the bullpen in
the future.August 20, 2017 at 9:52 am #31129We need Wacha in the rotation for the remainder of 2017. But he might be an answer to help shore up the bullpen next year. Hopefully Reyes and perhaps Weaver can be starters next year, we can bring Lynn back, and we have Wacha as a late inning guy. He might even make a great closer.
August 20, 2017 at 10:20 am #3113414NyquisTParticipantWhat are the chances of AlReyes working out of the BP in ’18?
August 20, 2017 at 10:34 am #31136Sooner, my guess is that Kuhl does not have Wacha’s checkered health history. Plus, the latter has not been pitching particularly well lately. An opportunity to give him a bit of a breather with six weeks to go would not have been a bad idea considering the long rain delay, IMO.
