Cardinals employ two top athletic trainers

The Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) has announced the winners of their annual Minor League Athletic Trainers of the Year awards. These awards are given to one member of each of the 16 Minor League divisions in baseball with an additional award given to the Minor League Coordinator of the Year.

St. Louis Cardinals athletic trainers at two levels are 2009 winners. Memphis’ Chris Conroy and Tim Steinhaus with the Gulf Coast League Cardinals (pictured) have been named Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year for their respective leagues.

Steinhaus joined the Cardinals organization after spending two years as the
assistant athletic trainer at Middle Tennessee, focusing on the school’s baseball players. He was with the Milwaukee Brewers organization in 2004 and 2005 and was named Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year in the Arizona League in 2004. Prior to that, Steinhaus held trainer positions with the University of Cincinnati, University of Missouri and Francis Howell Central High School in St. Charles, Missouri.

Conroy is in his fifth year with the Redbirds and eleventh in the Cardinals organization.
He graduated from the College of Charleston with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1998 and became the trainer at Rookie League Johnson City in 2000. He followed that with two years as the trainer at Class A Potomac and two more years with Double-A Tennessee. Conroy previously worked for the NBA’s New York Knicks.

Conroy, Steinhaus and the other league winners and the coordinator winner are eligible for the Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award voted upon by the PBATS executive board and awarded at the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in December.

Congratulations to Chris Conroy and Tim Steinhaus, leaders in their profession and keeping Cardinals minor leaguers healthy and active!
