Results for the Arizona Fall League game played on Friday, October 27.
The Saguaros lost another close contest on Friday against the Scottsdale Scorpions. Two Cardinals appeared in this game.
Andrew Knizner, last week’s AFL Player of the Week, started at first base, hitting third in the lineup. Knizner went 1-for-4 with two RBI. A third inning single by the first sacker with two outs brought two runs home for Surprise, and tied the game. A throwing error by Knizner in the sixth put a runner on, but no harm was done as that runner did not score.
Knizner is batting .351 in AFL action with two home runs and nine RBI in nine games.
Taxi squad player John Nogowski was Surprise’s designated hitter. The fifth-place batter went 0-for-4, with a line out, two fly outs and a damaging ground into double play in the eighth inning. Down one run in the eighth, Surprise had three singles, but could not tie the score. In addition to the double play, a Saguaros runner was thrown out at home.
None of the Cardinals four pitchers saw action.
The Saguaros are 7-8 in the AFL West, tied with Glendale, and two games behind Peoria.
Saturday’s game: vs. Scottsdale, Sandy Alcantara (0-1, 5.14) 1:35 CT.
