Over the final week of the regular season, the Class-A Peoria Chiefs scored just 10 runs and lost all six games, including being swept by their first-round playoff opponent. Since joining the club seven games ago, outfielder Justin Toerner is batting .500.

Top pitching performances came from Austin Warner, Casey Meisner, Jesus Cruz, Jacob Patterson, Johan Oviedo, Perry DellaValle and Wilman Madera.
The Class-A Chiefs logged another 5-2 week, moving into a share of first place. Peoria’s improved pitching allowed just 18 runs over the seven games, six of which were decided by one run. Alvaro Seijas and Johan Oviedo have been leading the surge. Midwest League Player of the Month Elehuris Montero has been promoted to Palm Beach.

Our Player of the Day is Johnson City third baseman Nolan Gorman, whose 4-for-5 day included two doubles, a home run and four RBI. His teammate, Donivan Williams, hit a grand slam. Memphis’ Adolis Garcia and Peoria’s Yariel Gonzalez had three-run shots and Chiefs’ third baseman Elehuris Montero tied team and league records with four doubles.

Coming off a 3-3 homestand, the Class-A Chiefs put together a strong 5-1 week in Michigan and remain three games off the division lead. Pitching was key, with just 14 runs yielded over the six games. Alex Fagalde threw 11 scoreless innings over two starts.
