The Class-A Peoria Chiefs lost the Midwest League finals against Bowling Green, falling in four games of the best-of-five. Peoria split the first two contests at home before dropping the next two on the road, while scoring just five runs in total over the four games. Yariel Gonzalez was the club’s only hot hitter in the finals.

Peoria Chiefs Notebook – 2018 Week 23 – Playoffs

The Class-A Peoria Chiefs swept their first- and second-round playoff opponents, Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids, in a total of four games to become 2018 Western Division Champions. On Wednesday evening, the Midwest League finals against Bowling Green begin at Dozer Park. Luken Baker leads all MWL post-season hitters with six RBI.

Peoria Chiefs Notebook – 2018 Week 18

The Class-A Chiefs logged another 5-2 week, moving into a share of first place. Peoria’s improved pitching allowed just 18 runs over the seven games, six of which were decided by one run. Alvaro Seijas and Johan Oviedo have been leading the surge. Midwest League Player of the Month Elehuris Montero has been promoted to Palm Beach.

Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 30, 2018

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 5-1 on Sunday behind a lot of offense. Our Player of the Day is Johnson City third baseman Nolan Gorman, whose 4-for-5 day included two doubles, a home run and four RBI. His teammate, Donivan Williams, hit a grand slam. Memphis’ Adolis Garcia and Peoria’s Yariel Gonzalez had three-run shots and Chiefs’ third baseman Elehuris Montero tied team and league records with four doubles.

Peoria Chiefs Notebook – 2018 Week 16

Coming off a 3-3 homestand, the Class-A Chiefs put together a strong 5-1 week in Michigan and remain three games off the division lead. Pitching was key, with just 14 runs yielded over the six games. Alex Fagalde threw 11 scoreless innings over two starts.

Over six games at Dozer Park, the Peoria Chiefs averaged just two runs per contest. Improved pitching helped them salvage another 3-3 week, with the Class-A club at 13-10 in the second half. Alex Fagalde remains the most dependable starter, but Johan Oviedo is showing progress.
