David Kopp: Coming back soon

There was recent speculation that Springfield Cardinals right-handed starting pitcher David Kopp might be out for the season. That is not the case. The 23-year-old has experienced another bout with an inflamed bursa, but should be ready to go soon.

Currently on the seven-day disabled list of the Double-A Texas League club, Kopp has been prescribed new exercises and oral medication. He may or may not return immediately as a starter. Kopp may instead pitch in relief, depending on how he feels upon his activation.

Kopp has had three or four MRIs in past years that reportedly showed the same thing. As a result, there is a chance he may still require surgery in the fall.

In other news: There were two transactions on Saturday as right-handed pitcher Brian Broderick was promoted from Palm Beach to Springfield and lefty George Brown has been assigned to Palm Beach from Extended Spring Training (Batavia). The current roster matrix reflects these changes.
